One Day

By Tris
One day, one day is all it takes to wake up in an entirely different state of confusion, to wake up more confused than you were the day you came falling bravely and shaken from the body of another living, breathing creature, the day you are born. All it takes is the transition from one state of comfort to one which you must learn to feel comfortable, to adapt. As a human being, one which lives at the bottom of the totem pole, she who lives beneath the foot of the traditional white male, I am a woman, I am a black woman, I am a gay black woman, and just as I had to learn to feel comfortable, as much as I can in a white world, I must adapt to one where I am no longer a child, and I, as most other adults, must fiend for myself in a world of hardship and unfairness. One day is all takes to lose yourself, to find yourself, sitting, gazing into the blandness of 1 of 4 navy blue walls wondering where it all began and when it will end and how did it all go so fast. One day, one moment, one blue cap, one auditorium, one diploma, one never ending fear of failure and one girl brave enough to fight one second at a time, one day is all it takes. Perhaps my fears are nonsensical, assume my mother was right. Imagine a future where I too will feature in the worlds spotlight, where I, a mere spec of dust in the atmosphere evolves into something greater, imagine a world where I feature in a magazine, all it takes is one dream, one moment, one person.
